Our plant hire subsidiary, Weston Logistics operate a healthy fleet of mechanical and non-mechanical Plant requiring periodic inspections, including but not limited to, various types of Tower Cranes, MEWPS, telehandlers, material handling and lifting equipment.  We are therefore looking to recruit an Engineering Surveyor to join the Logistics team.

This is predominantly a mobile role and will require you to travel across Weston Homes 3 Development regions (Northern, Eastern & Southern) encapsulating East Anglia, Essex, Kent and other locations within the South East of England.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the operational safety of all Mechanical and Non-Mechanical Handling & Lifting Equipment

  • Thoroughly inspecting all types of Cranes, Forklifts, MEWPs etc for mechanical, structural and operational soundness

  • Checking that operational safety and processes are adhered to by site & their operatives

  • Undertaking informal and friendly education to Plant Operators on the safe operation of equipment

  • Carry out inspections on all sites at structured intervals (fortnightly/monthly) - all in a manner which supplements but does not replace the existing external statutory inspections we have with our trusted vendors

  • Liaising and communicating with individual projects on the above through means of emails/phone calls/diary bookings etc

  • Continuing on this to work closely with our existing trusted suppliers and vendors in order to establish and maintain a highly professional and exceptionally safety minded approach to the inspection and maintenance of the Weston Homes Plant Fleet

  • Working with machinery operatives and other individuals responsible for plant safety in order to establish their knowledge gaps and apply ongoing informal training and refreshment where necessary

  • Applying and administering strict documentation on all plant safety certificates, inspection records, H&S meetings, and the training/refreshing provided and any follow ups on this

  • Administering a certification and inspection database, and arranging for certificates to be undertaken and distributed where necessary i.e. 6 monthly LOLER

  • Working alongside the Plant Manager and Plant Engineers to promote quick response and reactiveness, but most essentially proactiveness, as far as preventative maintenance is concerned.

  • Reporting back to the Plant Manager and Plant Engineers on any defects found (or any potential future defects) whereby corrective action can be taken

  • Coordinating with the Plant Manager to arrange visits and deliver familiarisation training for new plant on site and coordinate documents relevant to said delivery of these i.e. RAMs, user manuals etc....

Skills & Qualifications

  • Experienced in assessing a wide range of mechanical and non-mechanical Construction Plant items, with ideally a focus on Crane inspections.

  • HNC / HND (Level 4+) in Mechanical Engineering discipline (eg Plant Engineering / Marine Engineering) Or I Eng or NVQ Level 4 or Eng Tech or LCGI / Licentiateship candidates must have NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification as a minimum.
