Weston Logistics operate a healthy and expanding fleet of mechanical and non-mechanical Plant Machinery, such as Tower Cranes, Access equipment, counterbalance forklifts, telehandlers, scaffolding, site welfare accommodation, containerised storage solutions and various materials handling and lifting equipment.Weston Logistics Ltd, a division of Weston Homes Plc, are currently looking to recruit a General Labourer to join the team. Based at the Takeley Depot, this role will be varied and rewarding for the right candidate.

The successful candidate will be pro-active, enthusiastic, hard working, willing to learn and understand the importance of teamwork. A general interest in the Construction Industry and Plant & Machinery would be advantageous.

The main day-to-day duties will involve maintaining the operational efficiency of the Takeley Depot, and therefore you will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • To work effectively as part of a team and to motivate other team members

  • Facilitate the booking in/out of goods and deliveries, especially componentry items such as scaffolding and work platform equipment, following correct processes and procedures, whilst being responsible for declaration of quantities counted

  • Loading and unloading of HGV vehicles, predominantly with mechanical forklifts, although occasionally also manually

  • Ensuring Plant & Machinery, materials and any other goods are made ready and available in advance, and to deadlines, to ensure the strict upkeep of operational efficiency of HGV vehicle schedules

  • Segregation and tidying of all items at the Depot into their allocated locations

  • To gain a very good knowledge of the products and Plant items operated, and to be aware of their general quantities and allocated locations within the depot

  • Weekly/Monthly stock counts as required

  • Jetwashing and general cleaning of Plant, Machinery & other associated items

  • Facilitating the readiness of Plant & Machinery, materials and any other goods before leaving the depot, i.e. palletising, wrapping, checking/counting etc

  • Inspection of Plant & Machinery, materials and any other goods upon arrival back at the depot, advising Management using correct processes and procedures for damages and losses

  • General upkeep of the depot, such as maintaining the tidiness and subsequent safety

  • Responsible for keeping records of general holdings of containerised storage solutions and being vigilant of changes by notifying Management

  • Assisting the maintenance technician and maintenance fitters with basic tasks such as painting/decorating, and filling Plant Machinery with diesel etc, especially during busy periods and holidays

  • Maintaining a quarantine area for all items of Plant with Safety defects or repair works required

  • Ensuring the perimeter of the depot is secure at the end of each working day, ensuring all external areas/doors are locked and made secure.

  • Assisting in facilitating the outcomes and actions of any Health & Safety inspections

  • Assist in the accurate picking and secure packaging of products for loading/dispatch

  • Work in a safe manner, complying with all statutory and company specific health and safety regulations/requirements

  • Assist with the setting up/dismantle of company staff & promotional events

  • To wholly understand the needs and deadlines of the business and carrying out any reasonable tasks or duties as required or requested by Management for the effective operation of the Company;

  • Any other duties as reasonably required or seen fit

Qualifications and Experience: 

Experience in a similar role would be advantageous. The successful candidate will be required to operate mechanical Plant Machinery (such as Forklifts) and therefore must be confident in this aspect. Existing qualifications for such will be desirable but not essential, as full training will be provided. The successful candidate must hold a Full UK Category B driving licence.
